Meet Angel, a 14 year-old Pomeranian. Angel’s mom is a bit of an angel herself; she adopted Angel as a senior; but that also means that she doesn’t know a lot about this little ball of floof! For her age, Angel has been in great health; that was until recently: she started having seizures! How do you know if your pup is having a seizure? To begin, your dog may hide, appear nervous or seek out being close to the owner. They may be restless, nervous, whining, shaking, or salivating, as well. All of this can last a few seconds to a few hours. During an actual seizure, the dog may lose consciousness or may just have a change in mental awareness such as snapping at invisible objects. If the dog experiences a grand mal, or full-blown seizure with loss of consciousness, all of the muscles of the body contract spastically and erratically. The dog usually falls over on its side and paddles its legs while seeming to be otherwise paralyzed, and can lose control of bowel movements and drool. If the seizure has not stopped within five minutes, immediately seek help from a veterinarian. After the seizure, your dog will typically be confused, disoriented, salivating, pacing, restlessness, or even temporary blindness. You can read more about seizures in dogs via VCA. Angel's mom works part-time and was not expecting something like this to happen, so when she took Angel to the vet, she applied for assistance from Fur Kids Foundation. Angel is now on medication to help control her seizures, and we are happy to report that she should be feeling better soon. Fur Kids Foundation is 100% ran by dedicated volunteers who give their time to help the Foundation raise money, take applications, and spread the word about the good work the Foundation does in Campbell County, Wyoming.
