This is Kush, a 2-year-old house cat. Kush’s mom recently started a new job and was getting caught up on bills when Kush came home with a large sore on the side of his body. Kush’s mom was very afraid he was going to get an infection, so she brought him to the vet. With their curious natures, cats will at some point or another suffer some minor injuries and put one of their nine lives on the line. If you notice that your cat has an open wound, make sure that your cat doesn’t have an infection. Signs can include: pus discharge, red or swollen skin, excessive scratching, loss of hair at the site, abscesses, fever, signs of pain (limping or pawing at affected area) or discomfort, and behavioral changes. If you see any of those signs in your feline friend, make sure to take them to the vet. While at the vet, Kush’s mom applied to Fur Kids Foundation for assistance. Luckily the wound wasn't that bad, and all Kush needed was a quick cleanup and some antibiotics. We are very happy to report that Kush is on his way to recovery, and hopefully doesn't hurt himself again! Minor injuries are fairly common and your cat’s immune system can likely naturally fight it off. However, that doesn’t mean that you should let them heal unaided if they appear to be suffering. It pays to be overcautious and nip problems in the bud by taking your car to the vet.
