This beauty is Nova, a 2-year-old German shepherd. Nova decided to explore her neighborhood recently, and unfortunately was hit by a car. This resulted in some pretty serious injuries, including a severely broken leg. Dog leg injuries are easy to identify if your dog is either limping or refusing to walk altogether. But these signs alone don't necessarily indicate a broken leg. According to VCA Hospitals, other signs that your dog's leg might be broken include intense pain, swelling at the site of the fracture, and the leg lying at an awkward angle. If you think your dog may have a broken leg, please take him to a vet right away rather than attempting to examine or treat the injury yourself. A veterinarian can better determine the seriousness of the injury and determine whether the broken leg requires treatment. Nova's parents work hard, and can afford Nova’s daily care and vet visits. However, when faced with an amputation or surgery, both resulting in thousands of dollars, they were overwhelmed and concerned, knowing they couldn't afford either. They applied to Fur Kids Foundation, and we were happy to help. Nova's parents made the decision to amputate her leg. Financially it cost less than the surgery to repair the break, but also Nova's parents knew there would be a long recovery of rehab with the surgery, and potential future issues from the surgery. Nova is now an adorable tri-pawd, and hopefully will never escape her yard again. Read more at: Boneo: How To Tell If Your Dog Has A Broken Leg About Fur Kids Foundation
